Why and oh why can't I?

It seems everyone these days has a personalized header for their blogs with cute graphics or a photograph taken personally by them or something like that. So I sat down with PhotoShop the other night and created several uber cute headers for Tater's blog (which she never posts to) and the writing challenge blog, just kind of playing around. Oh, they turned out so cute!

Now if I could just get them onto my blogs!

I have Googled, I have Asked, if I thought eHarmony would help I'd try there. I still can't figure it out. The common thing I'm seeing on the help sites is that I'm supposed to replace $blogtitle$ or $blog description$ with something, but what that something is, I'm not sure. Is it the image tag or the HTML stuff that Photobucket provides? And while we're on the subject, I can't even FIND $blogtitle$ anywhere in the code!

Todd, I know you have replaced your header. And the content even rotates! Color me WAY impressed over that one. Annaland has a kickin', gangsta-lookin' header. Dare I dream of one day achieving Dooce's graphic greatness? Dad Gone Mad? More like Dad Got Great Graphics. My long-distance friend and quite possibly long-lost sister, Carrie has an adorable little girl with a balloon catching our eye at her site.

Me? I just want to show the world what I did with a tater.

It took me a while to figure out how to get the picture to show up in the Infinite Monkey Press blog with the new Widget-oriented coding.

If you're doing the easy template stuff, add the image at the side, or bottom. Then, go to the HTML, figure out what the image ID is (Image1, Image2, etc.), and replace the div class stuff about blogtitle after [div id=outer-wrapper] with the div class info about the image; should be something like [div class='main section' id='main'][div class='widget Image' id='Image1'], only with < and > instead of [ and ]

Clear as mud?

I've been scared to try and do the rotating quote thing with the widgets, but I'm sure one of these days I'll be just bored enough to give it a whirl

Well, you sure as heck did something! Is this a preset template, or did you change things yourself? Cause I am so ignorant about this stuff, and I want a cuter blog.

Have you tried swearing at it? That's my solution to anything computer related. "Whore" is one of my favorites, when trying to get my computer to do something. Usually to bring up porn faster.

I'm also a fan of the swearing technique, but my suggestion is switch to typepad. They've dumbed it down to a point even I can do it, so you should have no problem.

If you find all the answers in layman's terms could you please share them with me? I've been trying since August and I sorry to admit it, but I've got nothing. I am dumber than a rock about the whole HTML etc. Good Luck!
Ooops sorry, was just lurking, again! Couldn't resist the comment.

After switching over to the new Blogger and the new template, I finally figured out how to "kinda" get my header back.

I went to "Layout":"Edit HTML" then scrolled down until I saw
"div id='header-wrapper'", I changed maxwidgets to = 2, and at the time I can swear there was something about "Removable=false" that I change to true, but it's gone now.

Then I went back into "Page Elements", deleted the header widget, added an HTML widget and a text widget. In the HTML widget I used an image link that displays my header and links back to the main page of my blog. In the text I added my saying of the moment. Then even though it previewed right, when I posted my sidebar started below my posts, so I moved all the new header widgets to right above the posts. It works. Not great, but it works.

Thanks for the props, RND, but those "cute" graphics are more trouble than they're worth. I finally elected to pay someone to do something for me and I'm not altogether pleased with the outcome. Trust me: there are days when I just feeling like blowing up the whole thing and throwing a picture of my ass up there.
